- Cleaning supplies (dust cloth, cleaning spray, vacuum, etc.)
- Boxes or bags for items to donate, sell, or discard
- A journal and pen for reflection
- Comfortable clothing for cleaning
Steps
- Set Your Intention
- Begin by setting a clear intention for your decluttering session. This could be something like: “I am creating a clean and organized space to invite new, positive energy into my life.”
- Write this intention in your journal or say it out loud to ground yourself in your purpose.
- Choose an Area to Declutter
- Decide which area of your home you will focus on today. It could be a single room, a closet, or even just a drawer.
- Break it down into manageable sections if the task feels overwhelming.
- Sort Items into Categories
- Create three categories: Keep, Donate/Sell, and Discard.
- As you go through your items, ask yourself:
- Do I use this item regularly?
- Does this item bring me joy or serve a purpose?
- Is this item in good condition, or is it broken/expired?
- Clean the Space
- Once you’ve sorted your items, take the time to clean the area thoroughly.
- Dust, vacuum, wipe surfaces, and make the space shine.
- Organize and Arrange
- Return the items you decided to keep to their rightful places in an organized manner.
- Consider using storage solutions like bins, baskets, or shelves to maintain order.
- Remove Clutter
- Immediately take the items you’ve chosen to discard or donate out of your home.
- If you plan to sell certain items, set a specific date to do so, ensuring they don’t remain in your space for too long.
- Reflect on the Process
- Sit down in your newly decluttered space and take a moment to enjoy the clarity and openness it brings.
- Use your journal to answer the following self-reflection questions:
